About Aegean Sailing School
Our Story
We originally came to Greece to fulfil our dream of spending a couple of years living on our yacht – and we soon decided not to leave. We set up a skippered charter business and when we started getting enthusiastic requests for sailing tuition, we established the first RYA recognised sailing school in the Athens area.
Today we welcome hundreds of students every year from around the world, who come to fulfil their own dreams.
Over the past six years we've grown from berthing a single boat on a rickety pier to having our own yacht pontoon in the main harbour. As the school has expanded we’ve worked hard to retain the personal service and relaxed atmosphere that our customers love.
Key Members of Our Team
School Principal George Burton is a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor with years of experience skippering and teaching sailing and diving in the Royal Navy. He first skippered cutters and whalers as a boy of 12, and is passionate about helping people set sail with confidence.
With us since 2007, Mark Cooper became our chief instructor in 2010. Mark has spent most of his life on or in the sea – as a young surfer in Cornwall, a hydrographic surveyor with the Royal Navy, and even as the F18 catamaran National Champion in 1999.
The school’s marketing director, Melody McKay Burton, has a background in IT and alongside managing all the ‘techie’ stuff she handles many enquiries personally via email, Skype and phone. As a qualified skipper and passionate sailor, she can help plan your trip.
Powerboat skipper and trainee Yacht skipper Erion (Nektarios) Doce is in charge of preparing the yachts for your trip and his smiling face will also welcome you back when you return. He can also help to arrange RIB trips and the hire of motorbikes, quads and cars on Aegina.
In 2011 we will also welcome instructors Ian Massey and Jonathan Davies to complete our sailing school team during the busy summer season. Ian taught with us last year and his relaxed style was very popular with our clients. Jonathan joins us for the first time as an instructor… but he did some of his early training with us!
