RYA COURSES FOR THE DISABLED

Sailing a yacht as a skipper or crew member gives you a real sense of freedom. We believe it's something that everyone should experience! We've always wanted to make our courses available to everyone, no matter what their bodily ability. So we're thrilled to announce the arrival of a new boat in May 2007 - fully equipped for those with physical or visual disabilities.

Hellas I features cabins accessible by those with mobility problems, including wheelchair users, steering that can be lowered, power-assisted winches, hand-rails, and speaking instruments for the visually impaired. You won't be left out of the pleasures of yachting in the sun either. Special equipment will assist you in and out of the water so that you can swim from the yacht while at anchor.

In 2006 we had a paraplegic student who successfully passed his RYA Day Skipper course on a yacht we 'borrowed' from Italy. We learned a lot about the special requirements from this experience and have fed that knowledge into the design of Hellas I.

It's an exciting development that allows us to broaden our teaching scope and work with people of all kinds of background and ability. So if you've always wanted to taste the open seas, now's the time to book with us!

Although the boat will be specially equipped, our tutors will follow the standard RYA syllabus - we expect all students to take part in crew duties from trimming the sails to making the tea! Both the galley and the chart table will be accessible from a wheelchair. Experience has shown us that those who throw themselves into our courses enjoy it the most!

PRICE INCLUDES: AIRPORT TRANSFERS, ACCOMMODATION, YACHT EXPENSES (FUEL, MOORING FEES, ETC), TUITION, RYA COURSE MATERIALS, BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ON-BOARD, USE OF LINENS/TOWELS/WATERPROOFS.
